The Hampton Roads Community Foundation will host the 7th annual Black Philanthropy Month celebration on Thursday, August 1 with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6:30 p.m. at the Attucks Theatre. This year’s observance kicks off with the panel discussion “Philanthropy and Historically Black Colleges and Universities: Supporting Our Future.” Panelists include:

  • Dr. Dawnn Lewis, founder and president of A New Day Foundation and an actor best known for her role as Jaleesa Vinson-Taylor on the NBC sitcom “A Different World”
  • Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston, President of Norfolk State University
  • Dr. Makola M. Abdullah, President of Virginia State University

Devon Henry, rector of the Norfolk State University Board of Visitors, will serve as moderator.  Attendees will learn about the programs and experiences offered on local HBCU campuses and gain an understanding of ways to invest in HBCUs and support their sustainability.
