Begun in 1997 as a way to promote tourism, the VAF has become a much heralded rite of spring, welcoming internationally acclaimed artists from around the globe as well as the best of the region's own professional arts organizations to present a dazzling lineup of music, theatre and dance. Festival events now take place in eight cities across Hampton Roads in concert halls, performing arts centers, opera houses, theatres, museums, outdoor stages, and historic churches. The Box Office, located at 440 Bank Street, is open Monday - Friday, 10am - 5pm.
