Norfolk is a participant in the Virginia Civil War Trails program, an effort that links more than 200 Civil War sites located throughout Virginia. Visitors can trace Norfolk's Civil War heritage by following the Civil War Trails around the City. Sites include Fort Norfolk, the historic Freemason Street District, and the West Point Memorial in West Point Cemetery, a monument dedicated to African American Civil War Union soldiers.
