Nobody writes better songs about the heartland than James McMurtry. Dubbed “America’s fiercest songwriter” by CNN, McMurtry writes songs about lovers and losers and those just trying to get by, “characters so real that you’re sure they’re going to climb out of the speakers and look you in the eyes” (Voice of America).
